PlayStation's have drastically over the years . PlayStation's all started back in 1994 where many people who use playstations now would of been a child or a baby. This was a basic console and a hand held control device. You could get different colour consoles but that was about it since it was just a very basic gaming device.
Compared to now, PS1 games have terrible quality graphics. It's very much just pixels.
In 2000 PlayStation 2 was released with a more of a slimmer design.. It was the same year as the very first x-box and Nintendo game cube. This was like the next generation of playing games back in the early 2000's. It was the most successful console in the world selling over 150 million consoles up to 2011. The graphics took a drastic change in PS2 in a good way.
PS2 had more challenging and exciting games. My personal favourite was The Simpson's Hit and Run and the WWE wrestling games

In 2005 PlayStation released a PSP (PlayStation portable). This is a smaller version of a PS2. It was designed for people to play games whilst away from home, for e.g. long journeys or on holidays. It was a very popular portable device for people to use when they were bored. You could also watch DVDs on it if you ever wanted a movie. The games/DVDS are a miniature disc. You have to be very careful where you left them because they're easy to lose. The PSP can connect to the PS2/PS3 for Internet access. This doesn't have WI-Fi so you cant connect to Internet wireless.
They eventually went on to make a smaller a slimmer version of a PSP with more built-in components such as a better graphics card and microphone. I've got a PSP slim but i don't tend to use it anymore because i like a computer system that has Internet. I mainly used my PSP to download music but i have an Ipod so i wont need it anymore.
PS3 is the modern day console. It competes with the X-box 360. I use PS3 consoles all the time when I am at home and you can use it for anything. I like to use the Internet on PS3 to contact friends while playing games. I contact friends on my PS3 mainly to invite my friends to a online game. On line games is the most common thing on PS3. This allows people around the world to compete or team with each other on a game. But it requires Internet for you to do that.
PlayStation Store is a online store for you to buy games or try out game demos. The online games are like extras you can add onto your PS3. I downloaded a game myself called the Walking dead, it cost me £15. Extras tend to cost money but you can get small games for free. They are similar to apps like u get on a Iphone. PS3's can be used for social media such as Facebook and twitter and you can find friends that way to add to your friends list. PS3's is become a social device now compared to a PS1 which was just used for gaming.
Other content on PS3's are music and video players, this allows you to view online movies and listen to music from your PS3. There is an catch up media so you can download it then your free to watch all your favourite TV programmes on your PS3 any time you want.
PlayStation home is a creation online network that allows users to create avatar/3D type content. Its used to for creating your own characters of some type and downloading them for online use. You can also enter competitions with your character for a chance to win good prises . This is free to users and its a good way of communicating and sharing your creation with people all around the world. A more recent PlayStation home lets you view videos and photos due to a online viewing application

Life with PlayStation is a database that lets users view things around the world such as the news and check the weather in any place you want to know about. It also has its own live channel that streams news and weather so if you want to know whats going on around the world, that's where you will go. It also can stream extra programmes but might cost extra such as a culture or science content. You can share these with friends and alert people whats happening in a certain place. It may be used to view the earth and track locations. This with automatically check whats happening in that local area. It's a very smart piece of online technology
